NCSA users land cover of Biophysical Journal
released July 26, 2005
Work that continues on NCSA's Tungsten cluster is featured on the cover of the July 2005 issue of Biophysical Journal. The studies discussed in the paper "Structural elements of in IGP synthase exclude water to optimize ammonia transfer" combine mutagenesis experiments and computational investigations to better understand the transfer of ammonia in an enzyme called imidazole glycerol phosphate. IGP is an important catalyst in the complex process of histidine biosynthesis.
Simulations of the process were completed by graduate student Rommie Amaro and Professor Zaida Luthey-Schulten, both of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's chemistry department. They collaborated with Purdue University's Rebecca Meyers and Jo Davisson.
